Thought Police

Since when do companies have the right to tell me what I can and can not look at? What makes any organization (the US government included) think that they know what is better for me than I do? I guess next they'll be telling me what I can and can't eat. Or maybe who I'm allowed to talk to and be friends with? Now you may think I'm panicing but I just read a press release by the MPAA that scares me a lot. Here is the quote:

"The action comes in response to After Darks’ prominent display in both Los Angeles and New York of advertising that the MPAA had explicitly disapproved as inappropriate for general public viewing."

Thats one of the most blatant, casual remarks I've ever seen violating my rights as a person. And what scares me the most is that no one seems to have noticed this. For those of you who don't read MPAA press releases, the story is that After Dark wanted some posters approved for some billboards. Well the MPAA said no, and so After Dark went and put them up anyway. And suddenly there was a public outcry against the graphic ads. Thats all well and good, thats what should happen. If the pubic doesn't want to look at the billboards, thats up to people to complain when the ads are put up. What gives the MPAA and the ratings the right to choose what I can or can not look at? Who made them my saviors to keep me from looking at things they consider harmful or graphic? I think maybe the MPAA needs to go back to worrying about putting out some good, original movies instead of worrying about my precious sensitivies. Messege to the MPAA: I don't need thought police, I can take care of that myself.

sigh

I absolutely despise the Oscars... wait scratch that. I absolutely despise just about all of the award shows they insist on jamming down my throat. I think its just one large ego trip for everyone in Hollywood, and a way to say "I'm better than you nyah nyah" to everyone who didn't get nominated and everyone else in the country. Over half the people involved are talentless hacks with huge egos, and the other half just enjoy film making and get no recognition for it. Quite honestly I think the majority of the actors and actresses should make little more than their stage counterparts do for theater shows. Now I know what you people are going to say, that without people getting paid that much we wouldn't have such big and well done movies. I just have to ask you though.... out of the movies that have come in the past year, how many of them have you actually, truly enjoyed? There is a list here that lists the movies of 2006 by how much it made. Just go through the list and count how many you truly enjoyed and then calculate the percentage of the total it is. You'll be surprised at how few good movies hollywood puts out. (be careful counting the movies, I counted fearless the first time through and remembered this was done in Asia and not by hollywood)

Edit: Here is another fun thing to do, go through the list of movies and count how many are a remake or a sequel. Makes you wonder what happened to fresh ideas. Again you'll have to careful, they like to hide that they are ripping off another movie. The Departed is a remake of a korean movie called Infernal Affairs, they just americanized it so we could better understand it (apparently we can't read subtitles or understand asian movies very well, we must be idiots)

Pure anger

Ok I'm a bit angry. Not at anything in specific but more of general angry angst.

First off:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/18/world/middleeast/18bucca.html?ex=1329454800&en=6beb274bfb789d48&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss You know what I have to say? Quit whining and go on about your life. You were detained because they considered you a threat. Now they no longer do so you were let go, thats life in a war zone. Its harsh I know but people have been living like this for thousands of years and civilization as a whole gets along just fine. You're free now, so go out and make some money off a book or two and be happy you were given the chance to be famous. See thats something they never talk about but this guy is making money off talking to reporters and can make money off of being imprisoned, so in essence the United States just gave this guy a way to support his family for the rest of his life. Where is the thanks for that?

Next:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/19/technology/19video.html?ex=1329541200&en=976b19728e9c9b61&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss I don't get it. Are the TV executives really that stupid? They broadcast their tv shows on the open air. At any given time you have quite a few tv shows passing through your head. So how can they bitch and moan about people posting clips (in this sense a clip is part, not the whole) of tv shows? The tv shows are out there, they are out floating through people's heads as I type this and they suddenly want to put the cat back in the bag? "Oh noes, people are putting up clips of our show on youtube, quick call the police, we don't want anyone seeing it and becoming interested in our show and maybe gaining more viewers... no we wouldn't want that..." Buncha retards if you ask me...

Next:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/18/world/middleeast/19irancnd.html?ex=1329454800&en=9e912f93367e7f5e&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss Ok so let me get this straight... we (the US) accuse Iran of helping to sow discord in Iraq and helping to supply insurgents so they turn around and accuse us of the same thing. This seems to be the tactic of either a 4 year old or a desperate country. I think maybe we hit a nerve and they are trying to shift the focus off of them and onto something else. I bet money that sometime in the next week they put out some statements once again trying to focus the world's attention somewhere else so they can go back to trying to become a nucleur power.

Finally:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/19/world/asia/19intel.html?ex=1329541200&en=287e4611199a0ae6&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss I'm sorry... does this scare anyone else? The same group that was proven to be behind the World Trade Center attacks is now coming back into power? They are now setting up training camps again for the express purpose (their avowed purpose) of killing as many American lives as possible. That makes me feel safe. You know who I blame? I blame the anti-war people here in the United States (Democrats mainly but these anti-war nuts are everywhere) Hell if I was part of the terrorist groups I'd be happy that the Democrats were now in power and that people are openly criticising the war. That just shows these terrorists that we don't have the backbone to stick to our ideals and strive for true safety and freedom. All I've been hearing lately coming from Washington is another debate on whether to continue to fund the war or not. Now we see the terrorists are gaining confidence from that. They are openly training again. Won't be long until we have another attack here in the United States. What will people do then? All I can do is buy myself more guns and teach my family how to use them. This way when the terrorists do come over here to attack us again I'll be ready. Maybe I'll live long enough to send a big fuck you to the Democrats and anti-war groups who got me killed...

Flying is fun!

Finally another update, sorry its been a while. I'm new to this whole blogging thing so it doesn't cross my mind every day to post something. I mainly post when something catches my eye that I just have to comment on. And yesterday something did.

This whole Nancy Pelosi whining about getting a plane thing just bugs me. Every single article I've read talks about how she wants a bigger plane so she can fly non-stop between D.C. and S.F. Now I just have to ask... what makes anyone think that she should even get a plane in the first place? If you or I took a job on the other side of the country would the company provide us with a plane so we could fly home when we wanted to? I just don't understand what makes Nancy Pelosi think she's better than any of us. Or any other public official for that matter. You have to remember these people applied for the job (by volunteering to run for office) and got the job, just like any one of us can do. The job of a public official doesn't make someone better than anyone else, in fact it should prove that they are willing to give up more for their fellow countrymen since they are in essence working for us. I think the media and the people in general need to take a fundamental look at their elected officials. Just think, maybe if we took all of the planes away from the congressmen then maybe we would have some more money to spend on things that need money, like revamping our public school system, or finishing once and for all our war on terrorism before the fight moves over here. Just my 2 cents.

Temper Tantrums and Airplanes

Ok, you may have heard about the recent incident on an AirTran flight. If you haven't you must be living under a rock. What happened was this. A family was on their way back home from a trip, it was the husband and wife and at least 1 kid, a 3 year old girl. Apparently this 3 year old must have had a bad because as soon as they boarded the plane the temper tantrum ensued. And kept going and going. The little girl crawled under her seat and stayed there crying, refusing to get into her seat so she could be strapped in. Well AirTran policy says all passengers must be in their seats with seat belts on before the flight can take off. So all the passengers got to sit their while a 3 year old girl pitched a fit and delayed the flight. After the flight had been delayed for about 15 minutes, AirTran officials removed the family from the plane, so the flight could continue.

You know what I have to say to this? Good for AirTran and shame on those "parents." I use the quotes for one reason. During the entire time this little girl hid under her seat crying and delaying the flight the parents just sat there. It was reported yesterday that the mom had tried to reason with the girl and talk her back in to the seat. .... I mean come on. The girl is 3 years old, reasoning doesn't do anything. Its obvious to me these people are failing as parents. The have no control and no discipline. If it was my daughter, a simple look would have gotten her quiet and docile and ready to go. Now I read in a news story that the family was offered free tickets for a year where ever AirTran flies. And they refused it. What a bunch of ingrates. If I had been in charge I would not have even offered them that, I would have told them they were lucky we hadn't called the police and had them thrown out. Flying is a privilege not right. And if you can't control your kids in public you should not even have them, or at least leave them at home where you won't disturb everyone else. I'll say this one more time, and maybe someone will listen: if you cannot discipline and control your kids then you should not have them. Maybe we can pass some legislation, I'm sure there are parents out there that can't have kids that will do a better job raising them than other people. Lets give the kids to them so the do-nothing whiny people can get back to how they lived before their kids interrupted. What is this world coming to?
